Helping Elmira’s unsheltered with
‘blessing bags’

Beginning February 2025, ongoing

The Sister's Keepers continues to provide meals and address other needs of the unsheltered in our community. Candy Kirkwood, who started the organization and leads the effort has brought together representatives from other community organizations and interested individuals (including 2 city council members) to explore how we might move forward together. In addition to a hot meal, they provide daily blessing bags. If you are interested in helping out, there is always need for any and all items for the “blessing bags.” You can drop off at the Williamses at 918 Mount Zoar Elmira NY or Candy's porch 453 Roe Ave.Elmira, NY, or bring to meditation on Wednesday evenings. Text Casey first to be sure she will be at meditation that evening (607-333-4018).

Each bag includes: Water, fruit bars or soft granola bars (many don't have teeth), fruit cups, fruit snacks, chips, slim jims, crackers (peanut butter or cheese), little Debbies or hostess desserts, individual chips, socks, hand warmers in cold weather. Additionally when available--wipes, bandaids, antibacterial cream. She and her partner drive alot since the unsheltered are scattered so gas cards (Weis or Coldiron) are also an option as are gift cards to McDonalds and Subway. Any part of any of this will certainly help to relieve suffering in the most vulnerable in our little city.
